An unusual birthday

26 Sep

It has been an unusual birthday so far. Up most of the night with a crazy head cold, my son told me that the cold medicine didn’t work when he had the cold last week. I told him it always has. Last night a 2 A.M. I agreed with him even though I was the only one awake.

I woke to the news from my husband that I was really 40 years old.  Due to a combination of 1) lack of sleep 2) cold medicine 3) my famously poor math skills I hesitated before contradicting him. I was born in 1974……I was pretty sure that I had one more year before ‘the big one’.

But, of course, he proved himself correct again by explaining that I am currently entering my 40th year of life on earth beginning today.  This makes me wonder if homeschooling the boys last year planted this East Asian thought in my husbands head as they consider a baby to be one at birth…..too much thinking for my current head cold.

It hasn’t been all bad though. Yes, I have slept away a good part of the day. However, during that time the house was mysteriously (and silently) cleaned. Presents have appeared on the table. Birthday wishes are appearing on Facebook and my phone. I have been waited on whenever I make an appearance. My husband has saddled my horse for me because I am determined to ride on this beautiful day.

I have been able to breath for the last four hours without cold medicine, yeah!….which, hopefully is a sign that I will be able to taste food again, as a friend dropped off this cake. I heard it is the closest recipe she could find to the one my great grandmother baked; chocolate cake with a coconut filling.

Yep, it has been an unusual day, but still a good one!chocolate coconut birthday cake by Julie

Happy birthday, Stacy. I hope you feel better soon. Somehow a cold at this time of year is worse than a winter cold!

Happy Birthday!!! Looks to me like you just turned 39. No worries, 40 isn’t a big deal either. Hope you start feeling better quickly. The cake sounds yummy. Maybe you could share your friend’s recipe later.

Happy Birthday, Stacy! Hope you cold goes away soon. That’s the pits for your birthday! Hey, are you about ready to train another wonderful freestyle horse??? You are sorely missed in the show ring, (except by your competitors, I guess!) You are such an inspiration!

Happy Birthday Stacy! I hope your cold goes away and you are 100% better soon! And, that you got to take that ride in some beautiful Ohio weather. Maybe this would help you feel better too–If you were born in 1974, you aren’t 40, you’re 39 ;))
Could Jesse be playing a joke?
    Best wishes!

    Dear Stacy,

Thank you for forwarding me your reflections on your 39-40 (in court right now) birthday.

    Happy Birthday.

I am inviting you to participate in PeaceHorse this coming summer in Montana.

I need innovative instructors who have different effective kind training techniques and philosophies to share with 50 Americans, 50 foreigners, and 10 M0ntanans.

The budget is $1.1 million but that has to cover a lot of sins (10 weeks of 110 student riders.).

What I ask that you do is think about what you could do a s a program for a day or several days that would be earthy shaking for these students. The usual plan is to have the students (11 at a time) work with each instructor in a different discipline for several days in a row so that the students don’t just hear but do.

You can go to http://www.PeaceHorse.org and you can look at my Facebook world (Thomas C. Schmidt) to see who I am.

I have a good sense of who you are by your YouTube posts. What I require is competence and excellence in your horsemanship discipline, and ability to communicate what you know, principles that are transferable more than techniques or gimmicks, and kindness and love and caring to make the world better one step at a time.

    With respect and admiration, sincerely,

    Thomas C. Schmidt

    Director of PeaceHorse

Happy Birthday Stacy!!! If that isn’t the cake recipe I bet that I have the right one. I have been making it for over 40 years and it is the one that my youngest sister used to always request for her birthday. It had cream cheese, coconut & chocolate chips in the middle and coffee in the chocolate cake batter. So if you think mine might be the right one send me an e-mail or a note to Cheryl Bailey, I am one of your fans and loved when you and the beautiful late Roxy were on Ellen.
