HELP! Where did that ad in my post come from?

25 Apr

OK, I don’t know how this works but the ‘ad’ in the last post about Jesse’s birthday…I didn’t put it there!

How does that happen, why can’t I see it in the admin part? I changed my passwords…but what else?

I just thought it was part of your website.. I see them on there pretty often. Is there a help desk for whatever website your blog is thru?

I am hosted directly on Word Press, looks like some helpful people on here have pointed me in a good direction. How long has this been happening?

If I am not mistaken when you opt to use theses sites as a blog host they have the ability to use your blog as an advertising media. I think this is how they pay the bills so to speak.

I found the spot to pay and ‘opt out’ of it. I would have done it earlier but I had no idea it was happening. Convenient that it didn’t show on my computer….oh well, live and learn!

I didn’t see it when I opened it in chrome, but it was there in internet explorer…I have no idea what that should mean.

They are on my wall and I tried to opt out of them yesterday but the site doing it would not let me. So frustrating!

I am guessing your site was hacked into…. I saw the ad and thought it a bit strange. Check with the site’s owner’s and see what they are using on their servers for protection.

I found this under the support page for WordPress.com .. hope this helps..

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/no-ads/
At WordPress.com, we sometimes display advertisements on your blog to help pay the bills. This keeps free features free!

We only run them in limited places, and we do not show ads to logged-in readers, which means only a very small percentage of your page views will actually contain ads.

To eliminate ads on your blog entirely, you can purchase the No-Ads Upgrade. The upgrade is especially attractive and useful to business blogs in order to eliminate any possibility of competitors’ ads displaying on their domains.

The No-Ads Upgrade costs $30.00 per blog, per year.

I think these ads are paid through google, facebook or another social media ap. The reason why some people see it and others don’t is that they’re geotargeted to the advertisers target market. They can target by geography, income level, interests, sex, whether they have children or not, etc., etc. Scary stuff – nothing is private on the internet.

Set it up so you moderate all comments…you see them before anyone else and decide whether you want them posted on your blog. ONLY way to go…good luck!

The ads have been showing up in all your posts. However, I’m not sure how to fix it. Sorry!

I tried commenting earlier but it’s not working from my computer.. I sent you a message on Facebook about what I found in the support link for word press .. It said something about that they do post ads to some blogs unless you upgrade.. It’s how they get paid for certain websites.. I attached the link in the message.. Hope that helps…

On some blog site’s a person can place an ad through the server. What happens next is that the person who owns the blog gets paid everytime the ad is clicked on. Now you can’t get rich off it because it pays only a few cents per click. , What this looks like to me is that your server has placed a serch engine on your blogs that are related to the horse industry. I would contact them and see if they have upgraded this feature without you knowing. There should be a tool thing somewhere on your setup page where you can deleat this feature.

I think that is part of the reason my virus scanner blocks your blog site. Because it can .. or someone has the ability to post malicious content from it. Not sure .. but it never happened until the ads started showing up.
